The New WEI Group presents “The Digital Container Store: Cleaning Up Your Desktop and Organizing Your Files the Easy Way.” For PC users, this workshop focuses on using the Windows Explorer tool to clean up your desktop, create new folders, and organize your files quickly and easily. REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION INFORMATION
A website has been posted to provide information on how the Republican National Convention will affect the FIT campus. The convention, to be held from August 29 to September 2, coincides with the start of the fall semester. During that time the college will remain open and classes and activities will be held as scheduled. The site will be updated as information develops and can be viewed at www3.fitnyc.edu/rnc.
NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION WEBSITE
The Division of Student Affairs and the Office of College Relations are pleased to announce the launch of a new student orientation website at www.fitnyc.edu/orientation. The new site familiarizes new students with FIT before they arrive on campus. It includes descriptions of all Student Affairs offices with links to relevant information on the FIT website, as well as online registration for the mandatory orientation activities during Connections: New Student Success Week, which begins August 23.

JOYCE F. BROWN RECEIVES HONORARY DEGREE FROM SIENA COLLEGE
At its 64th commencement on Saturday, May 22, Siena College in Londonville, NY, presented FIT President Joyce F. Brown with an honorary degree, in honor of her career as an educator and academic administrator. Particular mention was made of her advocacy for public higher education; special initiatives Dr. Brown has directed for SUNY, including collaborations between SUNY and the New York City Board of Education focusing on improving academic preparation and retention in secondary schools; and programs she created and directed with the government of South Africa to prepare black South Africans for key positions in business and industry. PACKAGING DESIGN STUDENTS WIN AWARDS
Carlo DiRusso, Malvina Yampolsky, and Yin Wu were named winners of the first Robinson Paperboard Packaging Design contest at FIT. Each student received a cash award of $750. DiRusso designed an unusual spray bottle with the liquid holder and nozzle in the center. Yampolski designed a swiveling canister for aromatic powders, and Wu designed hollow spheres to hold scented liquids and beads. The contest, held during the spring semester, was open to sixth-semester Packaging Design students. For more information contact the Packaging Design department, x78162.
FACULTY ADVISOR TAKES STUDENTS TO COLOR CONFERENCE
Margaret Miele, assistant professor of Psychology, took four students to the Inter-Society Color Council Annual Conference in May. The conference was hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, MD. Students were given a tour of the government facility and its color science labs. Erica Neilsen, a graduating student, won first prize for her entry in the Art, Design, and Psychology poster competition.
