King ensemble
Evening Ensemble
Silk jacquard
Circa 1935, USA
Gift of Mrs. Louise Morgan Hook, Mrs. Anne Morgan Simoneau and Mr. J.P. Morgan, II, in memory of their mother, Mrs. Junius S. Morgan, 76.20.2A/B

This evening ensemble is made from a simple striped fabric that King had cut and reassembled at a 45 degree angle. This technique, known as “mitering,” was popular with leading couturiers. Its use here underscores King’s familiarity with cutting-edge couture practices.
