/ 20th Century Revivals
Design scholar Elizabeth Guffey observes in her book Retro: The Culture of Revival that revivals are occurring with greater and greater frequency, and increasingly draw on the not-so-distant past.

. . . . . . . . .

A chic, broad-shouldered suit was a staple in the wardrobe of the 1940s woman. Placing stripes on both the horizontal and the vertical axes, Adrian showcases an artful manipulation of pattern in order to maximize visual interest, by placing stripes on both the horizontal and the vertical axes. Bill Blass played with the direction of the stripes on his suit to create a design evocative of 1940s fashions by Adrian. Blass included another historical reference by looking even farther back to the belted Norfolk jacket, a popular style for hunting wear in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
