Germaine Emilie Krebs (1903 – 1993) began her career under the
name “Alix Barton” and only became known as Madame Grès after
1942. She is best known for her perfection in the art of
pleating and draping. A great sculptress of fashion, Madame Grès
is represented here by this chic ensemble that was donated by
Mrs. Walter Paepcke. A major exhibition, Madame Grès: The
Sphinx of Fashion, will open at the Museum at FIT in
				February, 2008.
