mannequin in a black dress with collared jacket   Germaine Emilie Krebs (1903 – 1993) began her career under the name “Alix Barton” and only became known as Madame Grès after 1942. She is best known for her perfection in the art of pleating and draping. A great sculptress of fashion, Madame Grès is represented here by this chic ensemble that was donated by Mrs. Walter Paepcke. A major exhibition, Madame Grès: The Sphinx of Fashion, will open at the Museum at FIT in February, 2008.
