/ Historical Periods
This selection of garments reference distant civilizations, such as ancient Egypt, and historical periods, such as the Middle Ages.

The rich look of this evening dress resembles depictions of women’s clothing during the Byzantine Empire (the 4th to the 15th centuries). Jeweled adornments were often worn by elite women. The empire was also known for the production of mosaics, from which much of the information about dress of that period has come.
